New Hampton Community School District

The New Hampton Community School District serves these communities: 
New Hampton, Alta Vista, North Washington, Boyd, Jerico, 
Ionia and the surrounding rural areas.

EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE AWARDS
in May of 2000, the New Hampton Community School District, Mercy Medical Center and St. Joseph Catholic School received a regional FINE award for its community-wide parent and child education program - Parent/Child Connection.

In April of 1995 the New Hampton Elementary School received the very prestigious State of Iowa FINE (First in the Nation in Education) Award. New Hampton is only one of approximately 60 schools in the State of Iowa to receive this award. The award was received for the school's literacy program and commitment to overall excellence.

TECHNOLOGY
Excellent technology opportunities exist for students. The school district employs a full-time K-12 Technology Coordinator to assure that students are well prepared for the technology skills they will need in the future. The school has two computer labs at the elementary/middle school with a full-networked ethernet system. The high school has a 50-station licensed instructional network that connects several classrooms and the media center and three instructional computer labs. The high school also has direct Internet access with more than 110 workstations. Student to computer ratio is 6:1.



EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAM
The school district offers an early childhood program for three, four and five year old children. The programs are known as TLC (The Learning Center) and the Preschool Development Program. Both programs have been very successful and well received by the parents and community. The two programs currently have an enrollment of approximately seventy students staffed with three teachers (certified in early childhood education) and 4 teacher associates.

The New Hampton Community School District consists of approximately 1,300 students in grades
 PK-12. The elementary school is comprised of grades PK-5 with an average pupil-teacher ratio 
of 17-24:1. The kindergarten program is an all day/every day program. The middle school is
 comprised of grades 6-8. The high school is a separate building and is comprised of grades 9-12.
 Pupil/teacher ratios in most classes at the middle school and high school range from 18-25:1
